When is the right time to take on a coach?

Preferably well before you feel you need one.  A great time to work with a coach is before the overwhelm hits, before the sudden feeling of upset, crisis, burn out or groundhog day.

I coach both in the private and corporate space and my private clients tend to show a pattern of hitting a crisis “tipping point” before they contact me.  Depending on where you are when we chat it may be that you require therapy rather than coaching, or a mix of both. I am OK at managing the dangers of standing on the cliff but boy oh boy or girl oh girl, I would prefer to have more of you a bit further back from that edge if at all possible.

It’s easy for me to sit here and say talk to a coach prior to feeling the above, as I understand a freight train moves fast and we can have it bearing down on us before we’ve had a chance to fully realise that we are not feeling or being at our best. And we have had a rather challenging year haven’t we?

Can I please support you and super over stress here that SOONER THAN LATER is the time to take on a coach.  If you are a high achiever/performer I believe you should consider having a coach as a matter of course as one of your priority resources.  Coaches are best at maximising your potential, holding a mirror up to your super powers and helping you strategise a path to where you want to go (aiming high) and to enjoy the journey. Unwinding from a position of stress and burn out adds a complex layer to work through...therefore if that can be avoided then all the better.

Coaching is about fulfilment, achievement, joy and success so I guess it’s best to take one on when you are feeling on the edge of that space if possible, versus waiting for that heavy, noisy freight train to chase you on your tracks toward the crisis cliff.

But hey if that freight train is on its way… Please still reach out to a good coach.  They’ve got you!
